TITLE: Cutting Manager

DEPARTMENT: Ceramics Department

REPORTS TO: Department Manager

SUMMARY: The Cutting Manager coordinates the operational activities of the finishing and packaging line. He or she ensures compliance with production targets, quality standards, and safety regulations, directly intervening on machine parameters in the event of anomalies.

DUTIES

include but are not limited to:

  • Perform and supervise machine parameter changes for switching to new tile formats;
  • Parameter adjustment: Set cutting dimensions and wheel removal rates;
  • Calibrate the vision systems, robotic arms, and carton magazines of the Nuova Fima packaging machine;
  • Ensure a constant flow of material, avoiding critical issues between the cutting, grinding, and packaging phases;
  • Periodically measure the dimensions of ground pieces with industrial calipers and digital tools;
  • Monitor the flatness and squareness of edges (squaring) to eliminate installation defects;
  • Promptly detect surface defects such as chipping, cracks, wheel scratches, or cutting defects;
  • Isolate non-compliant batches and analyze the technical cause of the defect to correct line parameters;
  • Distribute operators to the line stations based on their skills and shift needs;
  • Train new hires on the safe use of machinery and quality control procedures;
  • Monitor safety.

MUST HAVE:

  • Experience: At least 3-5 years as a senior operator or shift manager in ceramic sorting, cutting, or grinding departments;
  • Technical diploma (Mechanical, Mechatronics, Electronics) or equivalent professional qualification;
  • Previous experience on Omega and BMR machinery desirable;
  • Availability: Round the clock availability: on call on any of the 3 daily shifts (including weekends, if required);
  • In-depth knowledge of Omega cutting machines, BMR squaring lines, and Nuova Fima packaging stations;
  • Chemical and physical knowledge of the behavior of porcelain stoneware and single-fired tiles under mechanical stress;
  • Fluent use of centesimal calipers, thickness gauges, precision squares, and on-board machine diagnostic software;
  • Ability to interpret product data sheets, millimetric tolerances, and basic assembly drawings;
  • Flexibility and operational availability;
  • Collaborative spirit and a focus on continuous learning;
  • Ability to adapt to a familiar, dynamic, and structured environment.
