The company commissioned us to research:
TITLE: Laboratory Specialist
DEPARTMENT: Ceramics Department
REPORTS TO: Laboratory Manager
SUMMARY: Coordinates glaze production, manages the team, optimizes processes (preparation, application), ensures quality and safety, and supervises chemical analysis, ensuring the reliability of results to meet the technical and production standards of the ceramic industry. This role combines specific technical expertise (chemistry, ceramics) with managerial skills.
DUTIES
include but are not limited to:
- Will read, follow, comply and compare glazes from the Company Formula Sheet.
- Responsible for following the schedule, to prepare the glaze and check it before the production. In the event of problems, it is expected that the employee will be responsible for making any necessary changes/corrections.
- Wil be responsible for following the schedule and printing according to formula(s) and samples from previous tile production;
- Each morning, the employee will be responsible for taking production samples from the line and preparing the formula for the following day.
- Will have working knowledge of Mixing Mils, Dryer, Manual Spraying Cabin and Gram Scales.
- Ability to understand the color spectrum and to make color adjustments.
- Will prepare monthly inventory of glazes, chemicals, nozzles etc. This inventory will be used for any ordering needs.
- Regularly weigh materials using daily gram scales. Must be able to assess whether scales are in order or need adjustments.
- Ensure that glazes used at Rainbow Inc meet all specifications.
- Maintain the Laboratory in compliance with Company housekeeping policies as well as OSHA regulations requirement.
- Responsible for maintaining the Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS)/SDS for all glazes and mixes in production, as well as maintaining a laboratory log.
- Responsible for keeping the racks of samples organized daily.
- Preparing new samples for customers in accordance customer requests, Quality Manager, Plant Manager instructions and time schedule.
- Will be responsible for updating the formulas as needed, in Excel, with each changes or a note regarding production time for that day/product.
- Responsible for the research and development of new products related to the new press line.
- Responsible of glaze preparation, controlling, testing, productivity of the glazing department of the new press line
- Responsible for being present during sample test production(s).
- Responsible for cleaning the beakers, containers, utensils etc at the end of every day.
- Will be responsible for keeping the laboratory as well as the glaze preparation area on the production floor clean and safe at all times.
- Light physical effort required. Continuous mental and visual attention required. Demonstrates the ability to bend, stretch, twist, or reach with the body, arms, and/or legs. Repeated movements of the fingers, hands, and wrists.
- Responsible for preparation for both test and production in the absence of the Glaze Preparer.
- Will follow Plant Manager’s directive.
- Responsible for collaboration with Management as well as Operators.
MUST HAVE:
- Technical Training. Education in Chemistry.
- Previous experience in the role.
- Fluent English.
- Background in manufacturing or industrial environments (ceramics).
- Analytical skills and a focus on results.
- Excellent organizational and operational skills.
- Active presence in the department, practical approach.
- Strong interpersonal skills and sensitivity to internal dynamics.
- Flexibility and operational availability.
